Data monetisation refers to the act of generating measurable economic benefits from available data sources. Less commonly, it may also refer to the act of monetising data services.  It refers to the process of using data to obtain quantifiable economic benefit. Internal or indirect methods include using data to make measurable business performance improvements and inform decisions.

Monetisation serves as a genesis for leveraging data as a competitive asset. It can create a new revenue stream to expand investment in data capture, processing and insights while reducing other expenses across the organisation, increasing profitability.
